NEEDLEPOINT
CHARTS
Needlepoint is creative way to express yourself whether you are making a personal statement in your home, or gifting a piece handmade by you to someone you care about. Its applications are endless and many pieces are passed on as heirlooms. The craft itself can be therapeutic in practice and can feed the craving to create something beautiful with your own hands.
But let’s face it, needlepoint is expensive! Hand-painted canvases can be costly, and rightfully so considering the time and effort it requires. House of Sand and Bone believes that needlepoint should be and can be more accessible and more affordable.
Painting your own canvas or stitching from needlepoint charts are ways to deflect some of that cost. Sometimes going from chart to canvas can be confusing. This is why we have developed a chart that we believe clears up some of the ambiguity. With the beginner in mind, the stitches represented here are the classic needlepoint “tent or continental stitch,” not specialty stitches.
Our charts indicate the stitch or thread color as it lies across the canvas intersection alleviating the confusion between intersection and space. Guides mark each inch vertically and horizontally, creating a larger grid that assist the stitcher with placement. Soon to be available on our website are pre-cut, taped canvases that include registration marks that coordinate with the intersections of the larger grid, another aid to lessen the chance of error.
Our charts are available on a few select pieces. They are free of charge and are offered alongside, not instead of, traditional block charts.
